8. Gaining Kingdom XP

A kingdom gains experience (XP) by claiming hexes, reaching milestones, enduring kingdom events, or converting surplus RP at the end of a Kingdom turn.

Hex Claim XP Awards

Each time a kingdom claims a hex, it earns kingdom XP based on the table below. If this hex is lost at a later date, the kingdom does not lose the XP earned from claiming it. Conversely, if the kingdom reclaims a lost hex, it does not gain XP from reclaiming it.

Kingdom Size XP
1-9 100 XP per Hex claimed
10-24 50 XP
25-49 25 XP
50-99 10 XP
100+ 5 XP
Milestone XP Awards

As the kingdom grows, the kingdom gains XP the first time it reaches a milestone. These XP awards are given only once, the first time each milestone is attained. See Milestones for a list of Milestone XP awards.

Event XP Awards

A kingdom earns XP for experiencing a random event or more for a Story event, regardless of the event’s outcome. It receives XP based on the event level and the XP rewards by level chart.

Surplus RP XP Awards

Any RP remaining unspent at the end of a Kingdom turn is converted into XP at a ratio following the table below.

Kingdom Level RP to XP Conversion
1-4 10
5-8 7
9-12 5
13-16 2
17+ 1
Additional Changes to Kingdom XP (Vance and Kerenshara)

  • Building Terrain Improvements will give XP for each improvement in addition to the existing Milestones.
  • Each Work Site and Farm a Kingdom builds beyond the first Farm/Lumber Camp/Mine/Quarry gives the Kingdom 10 XP.
  • Each Hex of Roads/Bridges beyond the first gives 5 XP.
  • Every Structure built gives 5 XP plus 5 for every full 10 RP of its cost upon completion.
  • XP for Structures is doubled for Structures with the Edifice trait.
  • XP for Structures is only given for Structures constructed using the Build Structure Activity. Pre-existing Structures in settlements that join the Kingdom via Pledge of Fealty and Structures granted from the Resources description of a hex do not grant XP.
